The Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is the largest of the eagles. It nests in northern Kazakhstan, Altai, Ustyurt, Kyzylkum and the mountains of southern and southeastern Kazakhstan. It is found everywhere in nomadic areas.

Within the administrative boundaries of Kazakhstan the number of golden eagles on nesting can be estimated at an average of about 570 pairs.

Appearance

Completely dark underneath. There are significant individual variations in the coloration of the top in combinations of dark brown, gray and ochre-red. The tail of adults is brownish gray above and below at the base, with a marbled pattern, often forming dark transverse stripes, gradually darkening to dark brown toward the end. The tarsi are about the same color, also dark brown at the tips. The feathers on the head are ochre or golden brown, elongated on the nape and neck, in which there is a resemblance to the gravid. In contrast, the Golden Eagle has no white spots in the scapular region, keeps its wings slightly raised when planning, the head is less forward, and the tail is longer and broader, its length only slightly less than the width of the wing. Individual variation of coloration is expressed in darker or lighter (red or brown) coloration of the body, intensity of golden or ochre color on the head, the wing may be darker or, on the contrary, lighter, in the latter case a darker stripe along the hind margin of the wing is more noticeable. In some adults, white spots remain at the bases of the forepaws (more often at the bottom). Adult attire is acquired only in the 6th year of life. In first-year juveniles, the tail is contrastingly bicolored - white at the base, with a broad dark-brown terminal stripe; the forepaws have white bases, merging into a large white field; many white feathers are scattered on the body from below, more on the lower abdomen and under the tail. At subsequent molts, up to 6 years of age, white coloration on body, tail and wings becomes less and less. (kz.birding.day).
