BRCC continues to expand its network of bustard keepers
We continue to work on the project “Transboundary Conservation of Great Bustard in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan”, namely to expand the network of Great Bustard keepers. As part of the project, our staff conduct outreach talks with local residents of the Turkestan region, farmers, hunters, gamekeepers, inspectors of nature conservation areas and representatives of akimats.
More and more local residents are learning about the importance of bustard conservation and getting involved in bird watching. Bakhtiyar Duisebayev, a resident of Tuyetas village, is one of the best examples of people interested in our project. Bakhtiyar lives in Baidibek district of Turkestan region, works as a mechanizer, and has observed bustards many times.
Seeing Bakhtiar's interest in our project, we decided to give him possession of the new binoculars. At the end of May 2024, our staff handed it over to Bakhtiyar. And the binoculars have been of use to him many times during 2024.
We would also like to note that we gave another pair of binoculars to one of the employees of the Syrdarya-Turkestan Nature Park at the beginning of 2024.
And soon we will share video footage of bustard sightings that Bakhtiyar filmed and passed on to us.
