Third International Scientific and Practical Conference “Eagles of the Palearctic: Study and Conservation”

III INTERNATIONAL MEETING ON CONSERVATION OF THE STEPPE EAGLE

The Russian Raptor Research and Conservation Network (RRRCN), the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK) and the Public Foundation "Biodiversity Research and Conservation Centre" (BRCC, Kazakhstan) with the participation and support of RSPB / BirdLife International organise the III International Meeting on the Conservation of the Steppe Eagle (Aquila nipalensis) as part of the III International Scientific and Practical Conference "Palearctic Eagles: Study and Conservation" in Almaty, Kazakhstan, 25–29 September 2023.

The Steppe Eagle has been assessed as a globally threatened species for over 10 years (EN in the Global IUCN Red List). The main objective of the meeting is to provide experts on the Steppe Eagle from many countries, both breeding range, flight ways and wintering grounds, with an opportunity to exchange up-to-date information on the status of the species, discuss the prospects for its conservation and outline specific steps to achieve this goal.

A part of the meeting will be a session of scientific presentations summarising knowledge on the current status of a number of national and regional populations of the Steppe Eagle in breeding, migratory and wintering areas. At the round table within the framework of the meeting it is expected to initiate the preparation of national (for Kazakhstan) and global action plans for the conservation of the Steppe Eagle.
