The first white-tailed eagle in the West Kazakhstan region, marked with a tracker

On June 27, 2024, a white-tailed eagle was tagged with a tracker in western Kazakhstan. This is the first eagle that has been tagged in the West Kazakhstan region.

Sea eagles are large sedentary birds with a powerful beak and a wingspan of up to 2.5 m.

The name of this bird is truly legendary — Chapaev. But it's not for nothing that ornithologists often name birds, referring to the place where this bird lives. The name may be consonant with the region, city, town, or even the name of the mountain in the vicinity of which the bird lives. So it happened this time, the eagle's nest was located near the village of Chapaev.

History says that the county town of Lbishchensk is the place of death of V. I. Chapaev, a participant in the Civil War, in 1919. And in 1939, Lbishchensk was renamed Chapaev.

So, for six months now, our Chapaev has been flying in the West Kazakhstan region, and we hope that he will fly for a very, very long time.
